Equity
Western Dubuque Community School District implements multi-cultural, gender-fair approaches to our educational programs.

1. We are proud of our school culture in which diversity is celebrated!

2. The School Improvement Advisory Committee provided input into the following Multi-Cultural Gender-Fair Goals in October 2008:

Students will demonstrate a sense of self-discipline/decision-making processes that lead to safe, healthy, and productive choices.
Students will be life-long learners; prepared for the world through a curriculum that addresses a respect for human diversity and the learning needs of all students.
Students will accept and appreciate human diversity as a source of strength and enrichment as well as actively participate and function effectively in a changing and growing multicultural society.

3. The Equity Coordinator responsibilities include:

Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of Title IX (gender equity), Section 504 and Americans with Disabilities Act (disability equity), Title VI of the Civil Rights Act (race/national origin equity) and relevant state laws.
Ensuring that the agency has the required board policies and grievance procedures in place.
Ensuring that information about the non-discrimination policies, harassment/bullying/hazing policies, the name and contact information for the equity coordinator(s), and information about the related grievance procedures is disseminated annually to board members, administrators and all employees, students, parents, and applicants for employment.
Arranging for the training of staff and students regarding their rights under the legislation as well as assisting them in carrying out their responsibilities under the law.
Mediating conflicts and ensuring prompt and effective processing of complaints through the facilitation of the agency's board adopted civil rights grievance procedure.
Monitoring the agency's compliance with the legislation.
