EXPLORE, PLAN, and ACT
The philosophy of Western Dubuque Community School District is “Better Every Day”. As part of our improvement efforts, we are now providing more opportunities for our students to be college and career ready by having an assessment that measures college and career readiness and can open doors to post-secondary education, work, or the service.
To assist us in reaching our mission of Empowering confident, well-prepared citizens to excel in the 21st century, we’re excited to be administering the ACT EXPLORE to 7th and 8th Grade students, the ACT PLAN to 9th Grade students, and an ACT practice test to all 10th and 11th Grade students starting in the Fall of 2014.
These college readiness assessments provide a review of academic progress toward college and career readiness. Assessing your child’s academic strengths and areas of need at this time allows him/her to make timely coursework adjustments to get, or stay, on target for their educational and career goals. This year, the results will help us develop a baseline of what changes and improvements we need to make to our system to continue to offer students what they need for success.
The ACT EXPLORE can also be thought of as a “pre-pre ACT test” and the ACT PLAN as a “pre ACT test”. By taking these ACT aligned tests early in a student’s educational career, he/she will be better able to realize his/her current academic strengths and areas of need in English, math, reading, and science. The tests are designed to explore a broad range of options for your child’s future and gives each student a forecast of how his/her might do on the ACT Assessment.
